After creating the earth, sun, and moon ex nihilo…our Creator casually mentioned that “He made the stars also” (Gen. 1:16). God treats the creation of 1 septillion stars (that’s a 1 with 24 zeros after it) as an aside, an extra, an add on worthy of only casual mention. Do you remember 2016? It was a really, really big year. You probably don’t remember why. It was the year scientists figured out the universe was at least 10 times bigger than they thought it was and conversely our understanding of the universe was at least 10 times smaller than we thought it was (https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2016/hubble-reveals-observable-universe-contains-10-times-more-galaxies-than-previously-thought). It’s humbling to think about how little we really know…and that God not only created the stars but He calls them each by name.
