In ‘God’s Sovereign Election And Rejection #1′, we looked at the Lord’s sovereign election of Abraham over all the other men of Mesopotamia, and Isaac’s election over his half-brother Ishmael. Now, the Lord brings forth a powerful third example of the outworking of His will in election. The sovereignty and free choice of God in choosing some and rejecting others according to His perfect will, is nowhere seen more vividly than in Rebecca’s twins. The Lord pulls back the veil of His eternal decree and reveals a free will crushing, humanity humbling reality, “the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), 12 it was said to her, ‘The older shall serve the younger.’ 13 As it is written, ‘Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated’” (Rom 9:11-13). We live in a “Christian” era that doesn’t want God to be the LORD of His universe, or at least mankind within it. Here, in the heart of Romans 9, the LORD declares His LORDSHIP and glory in the salvation of all His elect. May we bow down before Him and sing of His wondrous work of AMAZING GRACE.
